As a Christian woman, I find great inspiration and guidance from the stories of women in the Bible. From the humility of Mary to the courage of Esther, there is much to learn from the examples of these women of faith. In this post, I want to share with you five of my favorite Bible verses about women in the Bible and the lessons we can learn from their examples.
In Luke 1:38, Mary responds to the angel Gabriel's announcement that she will bear the Son of God with the words, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word." Mary's willingness to surrender to God's plan is a powerful example of humility and trust in God's will. As women, we can learn from Mary's example by seeking to trust God in all circumstances and surrendering our plans to His will.
In Luke 10:38-42, Martha welcomes Jesus into her home and busies herself with serving and preparing for their meal. Meanwhile, her sister Mary sits at Jesus' feet, listening to his teaching. When Martha complains to Jesus about her sister's lack of help, Jesus gently reminds her that Mary has chosen "the better part" by listening to his words. Martha's example teaches us about the importance of hospitality and service, but also the need to balance our service with time spent in God's presence.
In Esther 4:14, Mordecai urges Esther to speak up to King Ahasuerus to save her people from destruction. Esther hesitates, fearing for her life, but ultimately chooses to act, saying, "If I perish, I perish." Esther's example teaches us about the importance of faith and courage in standing up for what is right, even in the face of fear or danger.
In Ruth 1:16, Ruth declares her loyalty to her mother-in-law Naomi, saying, "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God." Ruth's example teaches us about the importance of love and loyalty in relationships and community. As women, we can learn from Ruth's example by seeking to love and support those around us, even in difficult circumstances.
In Judges 4:4-10, Deborah serves as a judge and leader of Israel, providing wise counsel and guidance to the people. Her example teaches us about the importance of using our gifts and abilities to serve God and others, and of seeking wisdom and discernment in our leadership roles.
In conclusion, the stories of these five women in the Bible provide powerful examples and lessons for Christian women today. From Mary's humility to Deborah's leadership, these women demonstrate the many ways that we can use our gifts and abilities to serve God and others. As we seek to follow their examples, may we be strengthened and inspired to live lives of faith and service, trusting in God's plan and seeking to love and serve those around us.
